MASCULINITY IN THE WORKPLACE
Masculinity In The Workplace is an annual to mark International Men’s Day.
Masculinity in the Workplace aims to challenge gender stereotypes in workplace culture to enable everyone to thrive in a more inclusive and diverse world. This year our theme is Allyship, a key tool to combat exclusion. We want to encourage more men to become active allies, we want to cement the behaviours of active allyship and we want to open up a conversation about what comes next.
WHO IS THE EVENT FOR?
The event is for anyone who is passionate about driving gender equality in the workplace and we welcome everyone however they identify or express themselves. In particular we would love to see a broad representation of CEOs, CMOs, HR Directors and Inclusion & Diversity Practitioners. Expect to come away with:
A better understanding of the impact a more modern and positive view of masculinity can have on the workplace
Case studies to show how change is already being delivered in the workplace
A list of small things you can do tomorrow as an individual and business to make a difference to gender inclusion and wellbeing
A different perspective on Allyship and where we are heading with regards to gender equality
PRACTICALITIES
If you are buying a virtual ticket for the panel session you will need good wifi and sound and we will be delivering via Zoom so please make sure you have the latest version downloaded. You will receive the zoom login link via an eventbrite message 48 hours, 2 hours and 10 mins before the live date.
ACCESSIBILITY
We believe inclusion is fundamental in the creation of healthy workplace cultures. Which is why we want to make sure all of our events, physical or virtual, are inclusive and accessible to everyone. If you require any adjustments to make access to this event inclusive and equitable, please contact Elle Whiteley via email elle@weareutopia.co and we will work together to make sure that effective adjustments are put in place
Chapter 1 - Encouraging a different perspective
In this chapter, we invite men to be part of the gender conversation by highlighting the opportunity for them to create an inclusive world and workplace. Our keynote speaker is Tim Samuels who will be delivering a talk entitled "Smashing the patriarchy : what's in it for me?" . Tim is a documentary maker, broadcaster and author of ‘Who Stole My Spear’ which is an inspiring rallying call for men and ‘good masculinity’, looking at how men could be living these days.

Allyship is a tool on the journey to a more diverse and inclusive workplace, not the destination. So where are we heading? Come and join Iman Amrani to discuss where we are heading , her talk is entitled "Beyond Allyship : What's next?". Iman Amrani is a journalist whose recent YouTube series on Modern Masculinity for the Guardian has been welcomed for its open-minded and inquisitive approach and was the only non-broadcast nomination for a Royal Television Society journalism award in 2020. It will come from a desire to open the discussion around the issues facing men today, that wouldn’t feed into the increasingly partisan and hostile tone that we often see on social media and in the news.
